Ask most people what a Keystone summer looks like and you'll hear the same four weekend names in the same order. Bacon and bourbon, then wine and jazz, then bluegrass and beer, then Oktoberfest. That's the poster version. If you live here, the poster is misleading, because the four big weekends aren't the engine of the season. They're the loud extensions of a much quieter thing that happens every Friday at 4 p.m. in River Run Village.
The thesis of this post is small and specific: the free Keystone Concert Series is the real anchor of the summer calendar, and once you plan around Fridays, everything else in the village either falls into your lap or becomes easy to skip on purpose.
The Friday Anchor Nobody Puts On A Poster
Free concerts in Keystone Resort's River Run Village happen every Friday in the summer, and the lineup for 2026 is more varied than the "bluegrass town" reputation suggests. The series moves between the Events Plaza Stage, the Steep Brewing Co. patio, and Warren Station depending on the act and the weather, which matters if you're deciding whether to walk down with a chair or stop in on your way past.

Two things to notice. First, the July 31 slot is not a random Friday. It's the pregame for the Bluegrass and Beer Festival, which is how the series often works: the Friday act sets the register for whatever fills Saturday and Sunday. Second, when the concert lives on the Steep patio instead of the Events Plaza Stage, the crowd is smaller and the walk-up experience is closer to a neighborhood bar than a festival. Those are the Fridays locals tend to protect.
The Four Festival Weekends, Read As Friday Extensions
Once the Friday cadence is in place, the four big weekends stop being separate destinations you have to drive to. They're the Fridays that keep going.
- Bacon & Bourbon, June 27-28, 2026. Six country bands on Saturday, June 27, and six rock bands on Sunday, June 28. Narrow Gauge headlines Saturday and Hell's Belles headlines on Sunday. General admission is free; food and bourbon tastings require the purchase of tasting packages, which typically range from about $10 to $75 depending on the number of samples.
- Wine & Jazz, July 18-19, 2026. This is the most variety-heavy of the four. Saturday alone runs David Musante Trio, Eric James Jazz Conspiracy, Gregory Goodloe Solo, Motown and Classic Soul Revue, Buckner Funken Jazz, Zizania, and Dotsero across four stages. Most sets are free; only the wine sampling requires a ticket.
- Bluegrass & Beer, August 1-2, 2026. One of the longest running beer festivals in the state, celebrating its 29th year. That "29th" number is worth pausing on. It predates most of the condominium buildings in River Run.
- Oktoberfest, the one-day celebration finishing the festival season on Saturday, Sept. 5. Labor Day weekend, single day, stein-hoisting, Kinderfest for kids.
All six of Keystone Festivals' 2026 outings are free to enter, with themed music on four stages plus food, libations, and entertainment curated for each weekend. The pay layer is the tasting. That distinction changes how a resident should plan: you don't need a ticket to walk down and hear the music, and you don't need a ticket to leave after an hour.
The One-Offs Worth Blocking Off
Sandwiched between the marquee weekends are a handful of dates that will not appear on the standard summer roundups, and this is where the local calendar actually pays off.
July 3 - Stars & Guitars. Keystone's patriotic Fourth of July celebration features country and Americana music, family activities, circus acts, and food and drink. It runs the day before the holiday, which is the underrated part. If you host on the Fourth, this is the low-stress evening the day before.
July 11 - Tacos & Tequila, 7th year. This tequila-tasting event at Warren Station, featuring guidance from Tequila Educators with El Mayor and Cortada Tequilas, runs from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Mercado La Perla serves tacos on the patio from 2:30 to 4:45, and Pluck Norris plays live. Small, ticketed, and consistently one of the best-value afternoons of the summer.
July 18 - Keystone Science School 50th Anniversary Gala. Held at the Keystone Science School campus starting at 5 p.m., this one overlaps with Wine & Jazz Saturday, which means you can catch the free jazz sets in River Run in the early afternoon and be on campus by dinner. The KSS follow-up, the Summer Celebration on August 8 from 2 to 6 p.m. with a performance by Shaky Hand String Band, is the more family-friendly companion event.
Keystone Encore at Quaking Aspen Amphitheater. The National Repertory Orchestra performs at Quaking Aspen Amphitheater on Thursday, July 23 from 4 to 5 p.m., with a second date Saturday, July 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. Outdoor classical performance at altitude, free, and short enough to bring skeptical guests to.
July 24 - River Run Art Festival returns to Keystone, running alongside that evening's Hobo Village concert at Warren Station. Two events, same block, no driving.
What Fills The Weekday Gaps
Between Fridays, the mountain itself is doing work.
The River Run Gondola opens summer access to an elevation of 11,640 feet, which is the shortest path from your driveway to a genuinely different climate. At the base, the Bike Park is back for the summer, with bridges, berms, rock gardens, and downhill terrain. Golfers have two courses at their disposal, the River Course and Keystone Ranch, both operated by the resort. Horse-drawn wagon rides through the Soda Creek Valley and paddle boats on Keystone Lake handle the lower-tempo afternoons.
For families, Adventure Point at the top of the River Run Gondola runs Colorado's only summer tubing operation on snow, which is the sort of thing that sounds like a gimmick until an out-of-town nine-year-old asks about it. Kidtopia's daily programming continues through the summer with free activities in River Run.
None of this requires a Friday to work. But it does mean that on any given weekday between festival weekends, the village is quieter than the reputation suggests, and the shuttles run all the way through.
A Sample Week If You're Hosting
If guests are coming in the third week of July, here's how the Friday-anchored version reads in practice:
- Thursday, July 23. Drive to Quaking Aspen for the 4 p.m. NRO performance. Dinner back in the village.
- Friday, July 24. Morning at the Bike Park or on a paddle boat, afternoon at the River Run Art Festival, then walk to Warren Station for the 4 p.m. Hobo Village show.
- Saturday, July 25. NRO returns at 10 a.m., same amphitheater. Afternoon on the gondola. Evening open.
- Sunday, July 26. Golf at the River Course, or a wagon ride if the group skews younger.
No tickets required on three of four days. One driving trip, to Quaking Aspen. Everything else within walking distance of River Run Village.
